Lily twirled and spun on the ice as she skated around the rink. The rink was huge, with stands all around it for people to watch. Sometimes, students would come and watch the skating team practice, and she had had an audience at times. But today, for now it was just her. She was dressed in warm, and stretchy gray yoga pants, a purple athletic jacket, and knit gloves. Her hair was pulled back in a bun, and she wore her usual white ice-skates.
She loved ice-skating, just as much as she loved singing. She had been skating for years, and had gotten good. Her skates squeaked on the ice as she performed an intricate spin. Swinging around the rink, she next attemped a jump. She had been working jumping lately, and was finally getting the hang of it. Focusing, she jumped, then landed. It was a little messy, but she stayed up, and didn't fall. She continued practicing, not glancing up as she heard the door to the rink open.

Riley slid through the door of the ice rink, trying not to make too much noise while coming in. He knew Lily would be here, and maybe Jasmine. Riley had never skated before in his life, he knew if he tried he would suck at it. Riley approached the rink slowly to reveal one student; Lily. "Whoo!!" Riley hooted as Lily spun.
Riley sat at a bench that was very close to the wall of the rink. The ice shined, and sparkled everywhere the light beat down on it. He wondered what it would feel like to skate. The school always had extra skates, but Riley would never take chances of humiliating himself by attempting to skate.
"Your ..." Riley trailed off as Lily did another breath taking spin, Riley couldn't help but applaud. The ice skates made a sound that sent shivers down his spine, every time they chopped at the ice. Lily made it look completely easy to skate, but it had to be more complicated than this; every time you go to a local ice rink you see people fall flat out every five minutes.

Lily heard Riley's cheer, and she smiled, giving him a quick wave she skated past. Skating was amazing, feeling the air rush past you, leaping into the air. She loved it. Skating for her was easy as easy as walking down a street. The moves were more tricky and required more concentration, but she had the basic ones down. She and Mercy were the only ones on the skating team at the moment, but she hoped they would eventually get more people. They had a show coming up, and she figured Mercy might practice today as well.
They still had a bit of work today, especially on skating together. They could do each do the moves, but doing them at the same time was more tricky. You had to time it just right, and to do that required lots of practice. Lily did another spin, then decided to attempt another jump. It was more of a hop than a jump, but when you were skating quickly, doing a little jump and landing neatly could be tricky. But she was working on it. She tried it again, and this time it wasn't quite as messy, but still needed some work.
She decided to work on her routine for the show, and waved to the man in the sound booth to start the song up. Riley looked rather impressed, and since he was here, Lily figured she might as well give him a little show. She skated to the middle of the rink, and waited for the song to come on. When it did, she started skating, doing large turns, and circles, as well as several spins. It wasn't perfect, but it was getting close.

Derick snuck into the skating rink, sneaking up behind Riley. Once Derick was close enough to Riley, he through both of his hands on top of both Riley's eyes.
"Speak, and you die!" Derick said in the lowest possible voice he could make. Derick then uncovered Riley's eyes. "It was nice of me to show up, wasn't it? Derick said teasingly.
The music to Lily's skate routine was really loud, but the good thing was the song was actually fun to dance to. "Gooo Lily!!!" Derick yelled across the rink. He smiled and clapped.
"I wonder where Mercy is, she is on the skate team too" Derick said to Riley. He knew that Riley had a thing for Mercy, and Mercy even had one for him, they had just never took the step of hooking up with each other. This year, Derick was gonna push Riley to ask her out.
"You know, when Mercy shows up for practice you could offer to take her out somewhere!" Derick suggested. He knew that him and Mercy needed to spend some time alone together. How else would they fall in love?

Lily took a quick glance as the door opened again. She smiled as Derick walked in, then focused on her next spin. She grinned as Derick cheered her on, and continued doing her routine. It was getting close to being ready for the show, at least her part was. She was pretty sure Mercy was doing well too, so all they had to work on was timing.
The music was on the loud side, but it wasn't really a big deal, and she didn't have time to wave to the guy to turn it down. As the song came to a close, she finished off the routine with a dramatic finish, an intricate spin. She posed for a second, then skated over to the boys. "Hey guys." She said with a smile.

Mercy came in through the back door of the ice rink. She had on their school figure skating uniform that Lily had picked out for this months dance routine -- figure skating uniform looks like this! -- Mercy sat on a bench that was all the way across the rink from where Derick and Riley were sitting. She reached into the duffel bag that was slung over her shoulder, pulling out brand new white ice skates. Mercy slid her feet into the new skates, they felt hard and scratching like new ice skates always felt, then Mercy made her way onto the rink.
When Mercy got on the rink, Lily was still doing their dance routine, so Mercy stood off to the side till Lily finished. "Lookin good Lily!" Mercy yelled toward her. Mercy had been practicing everyday; sometimes with Lily and sometimes not with Lily, they positively needed more time to practice together before the competition.
Lily finished the dance routine and the song slowly faded away. When the song was totally off Mercy skated over to Lily, clapping. "You looked great!" Mercy commented excitedly. "Do you wanna run through it again; together?" Mercy asked. She knew Lily probably was starting to get tired after running through the whole routine. "Unless you'd rather take a short break first!" Mercy offered.

Lily saw Mercy come running, wearing their dance routine outfit. She would have worn hers, but she had forgotten at home. Thankfully though, she kept an outfit she could skate in in her gym locker. She smiled. "Thanks Mercy!" She called, watching her skate over. "My spin in the middle wasn't perfect, but I'll get it right next time. And nope, I'm good. You know me, I could skate all day and not be tired. I think if we practice running through it together a couple times a week, we should be good. I mean, we both have the routine down, it's just the timing we need to work on."
She skated out into the middle of the rink, pausing to wait for Mercy to catch up. She stretched for a minute, making she was ready to do it again. The last thing she needed was to get stiff while doing a spin. She skated around in a tight circle, waiting for Mercy to follow her.

Mercy skated to the middle of the rink after Lily. She immediately rested her body into their routine's starting position. Lily gestured for the guy in the operating room to reply the song. The operating room guy nodded, then slowly turned up the music until it was blaring loud.
Mercy counted in her head while doing their routine; something that all good figure skaters did. Counting is what keeps everything on-time. A figure skater can't just magically do spins at the same times as their partner. Both partners have to count in their head. So mercy began her counting; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 1, 2, etc.
Mercy and Lily were doing the routine very close to perfect now. They landed most of the jumps at the same time. They managed to start most of their spins at the same time. All this was thanks to counting.

Lily began her counts when the music started. It had taken a while to stay in time with each other. They had to count at the same speed, start at the same time, do everything exactly on time. But with practice, they had gotten it, and it was nearly perfect now. She couldn't wait for the show. They had worked hard for it, and deserved their moment to be in the spolight.
1, 2, 3, 4...She silently chanted in her head. The music was incredilbly loud. She'd have to make sure he turned it down a notch or two for the show. She began to skate, knowing Mercy was as well. She did her spins, her leaps, her jumps in time with Mercy's. There was a spot or two where one of them landed, or finished the spin just a half-second after the other. But it was something that could be easily corrected, that woudn't be noticed by the audience. After all, this was just a show, not a competition. Not that they didn't strive to be perfect, but they didn't stress if there was a tiny mistake or two. They'd simply try to correct it and move on. A competition was another matter. Judges noticed small things like that. And they had a big one coming up in a couple months. Already, they were working on the routines for it.
Lily continued chanting in her head, she and Mercy keeping perfectly in time with each other. They skated as a team, a result of them skating so much together. Though there were other spots on the skate team, they were the only ones at the moment. And except for group performances, skating was done either solo or as a duet. And she had no doubts, that should they get more members, they would continue to skate together. As the song finished, they did a dramatic finish with an elegant spin and jump. It was a hard move, but one they both had mastered. Smiling, she glanced at Mercy. "That was great Mercy! We're nearly ready!" She said, relieved they didn't have much work to do. "Unless you want to take a break, we could work on another routine." She suggested. Though she wouldn't mind a break, she was always up for another go.
